As some of you may have gathered, I’ve been conducting a bit of an experiment. I stopped posting on a regular basis about ten days ago just to see what would happen. To see if anyone noticed or took the time to inquire as to where I’d gone. And the answer appears to be “no”, more or less nothing happened. Which leads me to an obvious question: Am I wasting my time doing this?
I know I don’t have a large readership, but I know I have some. I also know that very few people take the time to post comments on sites, even sites with readership three times larger than my own. And finally, I know no one in his or her right mind is going to pay for access to this site (unless I start posting material I wouldn’t want the family to see). So what’s a guy to do?
Here’s my thought: If you enjoy reading this from time to time and you want me to keep it up, there’s one simple and reasonably easy thing you could do for me. Share the site with several/ten/myriad friends and colleagues. I can and do periodically check my traffic. So if any of you choose to accommodate this request, I should see the spike in visitors very quickly. If not, then I may be forced to conclude that this site is of limited benefit to people and I should perhaps do my part to rid the sphere of blogs no one but their author has the time to read.
How’s that for Direct Mark-eting?
